READ, EXPLORE AND DEVELOP (r.e.a.d.)
A. RATIONALE Reading is the most important academic skill and the foundation for all academic learning. If our children cannot read, they are on the road to academic failure. Teaching children to read must be our highest priority (California Task Force on Reading, Every Child A Reader, 2000). Mortimer J. Adler also quoted that reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life. Indeed, the school plays a role in making every child a reader, bringing each one of them to the spotlight of academic success. Facing the real scenario of the school, reading problem is not an exemption. The school is in its phase of overcoming low reading performance especially in developing comprehension. |
